The fish wrap factory northeast side of the Lake is reporting that the City of Wayzata is going to get more aggressive in it’s enforcement of rental properties and their condition. A new ordinance being considered seems to have momentum that will allow for an annual inspection of exterior and common areas of rental properties. Get ready for licenses and inspections like they have in Minneapolis and Hopkins.
Full disclosure, I am a landlord in Minneapolis and do not support licensing and inspection of rental property. Let the consumer vote with their feet as to what an acceptable rental property is.

Starting with the April 2008 Wayzata Bay Window, the Official Newsletter of the City of Wayzata has been redesigned. It used to be a couple of sheets of paper stapled together in black in white. The new WBW is much more attractive, printed in a thick stock paper, and contains various shades of blue. Watch for it in your mailbox soon!

Hi Wayzata,
I stopped by City Hall today to pick up the police blotter, and a big piece of paper with the word NOTICE was laying out on a table in the entryway…
So from me to you, it’s that time of year again, time to flush the water mains to let all the rust out of the system. That means you’ll see hydrants shooting water into streets, your drinking water will be orange from rust and you need to be careful when washing those white clothes. Here is the original press release straight from the city:
Happy flushing!

The Wayzata Utility Department will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants from April 21st through May 2nd. The purpose of this process is to remove any particulate matter that may have built up in the water mains over the year and also to insure that all fire hydrants on the water system are operating properly. As this flushing process may cause your water to become discolored at times, residents are advised to be observant while washing clothes until after the flushing has been completed. If discolored water is present, run the cold water faucets until the water clears.Wayzata’s Hydrant Flushing Schedule for spring 2008:

The Fish Wrap Factory west side of the river did a feature recently on the 50 smallest publically traded companies and the challenges they face in this tough economy. Wayzata’s own Richard Perkins, President of Perkins Captial Management was consulted by journalist Thomas Lee as discussing how quickly small cap stocks in this go down more quickly in tough economic times.

Elisha and I spent a couple of hours walking around downtown Wayzata today. It was 69 degrees and wonderfully warm after what seems like the longest exit from winter in recent memory. There were tons of people out walking and enjoying the warm sunshine and the views of Lake Minnetonka and Wayzata Bay.
While we were there, we observed couples out walking, young children playing on swingsets, plenty of canine companions, and someone out in a boat running through the remains of the ice in front of the Boatworks building! We could here the ice crunching against the hull of the fiberglass boat. That cannot be good for the boat!!!
People are so excited to get on Lake Minnetonka that they can’t resist boating even when there is still ice on the water! I can relate, as we went and examined our Sea Ray in storage today and starting to plan getting it ready for the summer. For a more detailed pictoral or slideshow of our day you can visit the following links: View Album Play slideshow. -
The fish wrap factory west side of the river is reporting that Joey Miller–Wayzata ’06 Football and Hockey standout–has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota Men’s Hockey program for 2008-2009.
Miller had a dynamic impact on both the hockey and the football team during his tenure at Wayzata High School. He was electric during the 2006 Prep Bowl in which Wayzata won the Minnesota State Football Championship over Cretin. He was also very good player for the Trojans Ice Hockey team while he was at WHS.
Look for Joey to contribute substantially to the Gopher’s Program, and as always, stay tuned to Wayzata.com for the latest and greatest information on Miller and Wayzata.
