The Pioneer Press is reporting that Representative John Berns of Wayzata is sponsoring a measure to make Hockey the official sport of the State of Minnesota. While Berns is quoted in the article as saying there are higher priories than this, it still makes constituents wonder why on earth legislators are spending time on something like this when the budget, bridges and roads, and our economy are such higher priorities.

We all have memories of the sticker with the blue logo of an eye that says neighborhood watch–it was and is designed to be a deterant to burglars and not so nice people. Now the city of Wayzata Police Department has started a Virtual Neighborhood Watch–an email communication which notifies subscribers of crime, parking regulations, press releases, and other important information. If you are interested in joining, email sbobzien@wayzata.org to subscribe.

The fish wrap factory north east of the lake is reporting The Wayzata City Council has set a schedule to review plans for the Bay Center to be reviewed. The Wayzata Housing and Redevelopment Authority has net scheduled any meetinging as of yet. Should the Wayzata City Council ignore their own directives with regard to building height and approve the Bay Center as it has been submitted?

The fish wrap factory northeast of the Lake is reporting that the City of Wayzata settled a lawsuit with Bob Ritter and Dennis Burgess for their plans to build duplexes on Manitoba Avenue in Wayzata. According to the story by D. Schueller, the City desired single family homes while the plans from Ritter and Burgess called for multifamily housing. The city settled by agreeing to consider new plans, to be submitted. Why the buildings are exempt from height restrictions is anybodies guess. Their seems to be a trend with new construction which says that the city’s height requirements can be surpassed–more frequently than i can recall in recent history.
The Wayzata Bay Center calls for how many stories–4 or 5, I don’t remember which. These plans call for very high roofs on the multifamily homes proposed on Manitoba. My questions to you is what do you think about the recent trend which seems to be building above the building height moratorium? Post your comments below.

The Star Tribune is reporting on the recent success of Taher, Inc., with it’s three concepts: The Wayzata Eatery, the Alaskan Eatery, and now the Nordeast Eatery. Has any one eaten at the Wayzata Eatery? What is the food like? How does it stack up to other Wayzata Restaurants? I did see a picture of the inside of it a number of months back in another Star Tribune article–seemed like it was very similar to the restaurant it replaced–Louie’s Habit. Look’s like the Strib gave it 2.5 stars. Your comments and reviews are greatly appreciated. Just click the “comments” deal underneath this post.

This is really an impressive piece of video from Wayzata High School students. I give it an 8 out of 10, all things considered. Nice writing, nice production values, etc. Video credit goes to Got2Lovett from YouTube. Best of all, it’s about my favorite hometown!!!

Seems like all we read about in the Weekly News is about how bad the retail environment in Wayzata continues to be. The other thing that seems to dominate headlines is redevelopment projects from the 5 Swans / Old Bank Building, to the Wayzata Bay Center and the gas station owned by Dean Vlahos and a partner that now stands in the way.
Everywhere you go in Wayzata the dirt and shovels seem to be flying. The new strip mall on top of the hill on Wayzata Boulevard at the old Burger King location appears to be nearing completion. The new developments on Lake Street and Manitoba. Is retail giving way to service and money management throughout Wayzata? It seems like it. Don’t take my word for it though, I’d like your opinion as to what the heck is going on.
