The Wayzata Fire Department has a new weapon in fire fighting: a gel additive for the water in the department’s tanker truck.
The gel is added to the 1,000 gallons of water contained in the tanker, and is intended to increase the fire fighting ability and stickiness of the water. Assistant Fire Chief Kurt Klapprich indicated that the gel turns 1,000 gallons of water into the equivalent of 10,000 gallons of water. Additionally, the gel sticks to surfaces and therefore requires less water to be used at the scene of a fire.

The Wayzata Fire Department tested the gel on Monday evening at Wayzata Public Works. It seemed to work quite effectively, as the crews that tested it had trouble relighting the test fire because the gel was sticking to everying and retarding the fire.
