Please join Wayzata High School’s three orchestras for a performance at the high school auditorium on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m.
The Ninth Grade Orchestra opens with Kalimba, inspired by the sounds of an African thumb piano, and the Appalachian-influenced Blue Ridge Run. The String Orchestra continues with Novo Cetvorno, a setting of a traditional Bulgarian women’s line dance and To Tame The Raging Rapids, music focused on the force of nature rather than a geographical location.
Fantasy on a Chinese Folk Theme opens the Chamber Orchestra portion of the program, followed by Dargason from English composer Gustav Holst’s St. Paul Suite and American composer Samuel Barber’s intense and well-known Adagio for Strings. The Chamber Orchestra then joins forces with woodwind, brass and percussion players from the WHS Wind Ensemble to form the WHS Symphony Orchestra, concluding the program with Reinhold Gliere’s rousing Russian Sailor’s Dance.
Come and enjoy about 75 minutes of great music performed by some of Wayzata High School’s finest
musicians. Tickets are available at the door. $3 for students/senior citizens and $5 for adults.
