WAYZATA BOY’S GOLF: Trojans in Second Place After Day One

The Wayzata boy’s golf team is just two strokes back from first place after day one of play at the 2009 boy’s golf state tournament. The Trojans fired a team score of 307 on Tuesday, which was good enough for second place. Eden Prairie shot a team score of 305 and will take the lead into Wednesday’s final round at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.

Wayzata senior Andy Stahlman led the way for the Trojans on Tuesday with a three over par 75. Stahlman heads into Wednesday’s final round tied for fourth place, four strokes behind Eastview’s Joe Petrulo. Petrulo fired a one under par 71 on Tuesday to take the lead after day one.

Senior Matt Thompson and sophomore Tyler Lowenstein are tied for 13th place after shooting identical five over par 77s on Tuesday. Senior Blake Vettel will begin Wednesday’s final round in a tie for 22nd place after shooting a six over par 78 in Tuesday’s first round.

On the girl’s side, Wayzata’s lone entrant in the state tournament is seventh grader Sarah Burnham. Burnham will enter Wednesday’s final round in a tie for 40th place after shooting a 92 in Tuesday’s first round.
