By Matt Thomas, Wayzata.com Sports Reporter

The Wayzata baseball team pounded out 14 hits and senior Billy Soule pitched a five-hit shutout as the Trojans beat the Hopkins Royals 10-0 on Monday afternoon. The win propels the Trojans back to the .500 mark at 5-5 overall and into a first place tie with the Royals in the Classic Lake Conference at 4-2.

Junior Zack Trygstad went 2 for 4 on the day with a double, a homerun, and 4 RBI’s. Junior Dylan Kent went 2 for 3 at the plate with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Senior Caleb Reesnes went 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored.

Despite all of the impressive offensive performances, the real star was Soule who was in complete control on the mound. The senior silenced the Royals’ bats just two weeks after the Royals had pounded Trojans’ pitching for 13 runs in a 13-3 victory.

Soule tied a season-high with eight strikeouts on Monday to give him 28 punch outs in 24 innings pitched this season. He now has a 3-0 record with a paltry 0.75 earned run average.

The Trojans will look to put together a winning streak with when host Edina at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29.
