WAYZATA ATHLETICS 2009: Spring Sports Update

Thanks to the cooperation of Mother Nature, the spring sports season is off and running in Wayzata and all around the state of Minnesota. Here is an update on how the Trojans have fared during the first week of the spring season.

The Wayzata baseball team picked up its first victory of the season on Monday afternoon with an 8-3 victory over Classic Lake Conference rival Minnetonka. The win evens the Trojans’ record at 1-1 after they opened the season with a 6-4 loss to Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Saturday, April 11. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 15 against Hopkins.

After having its first game cancelled, the Wayzata softball team opened its season with a 3-2 loss to Robbinsdale Armstrong on Monday afternoon. The team will try to even its record at 1-1 on Wednesday, April 15 against Minnetonka.

The Wayzata boy’s tennis team is off to a 2-1 start on the season after a 6-1 victory over St. Louis Park on Monday afternoon. The Trojans lost a heartbreaker, 4-3 to Breck, on Thursday, April 9. The team also has a 6-1 victory over Orono under its belt. The team faces a Classic Lake Conference match against Hopkins on Tuesday, April 14.

The Wayzata boy’s lacrosse team topped Armstrong 13-4 in its lone match of the spring thus far. Senior attacker Ryan Macgregor led the way in the victory with five goals and two assists. Senior midfielder Kevin Knight and junior attacker Sean Keogh each scored two goals. The team will look to improve to 2-0 on Thursday, April 16 against Minnetonka.

The Wayzata girl’s lacrosse team has been impressive in two matches this season. After opening the season with a 14-0 victory over Anoka on Thursday, April 9, the Trojans beat Armstrong 11-6 on Saturday, April 11.
