WAYZATA BOYS BASKETBALL 2009: Trojans Advance to Section Semifinals

The Wayzata boys basketball team moved one step closer to a rematch with number one ranked Hopkins in the section 6AAAA final with an 83-52 victory over Minneapolis Southwest in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday night.

Senior guard Jamar Franks led four players in double figures with 17 points. Senior forward Kellen Taylor added 13 points in the victory.

Next up for the Trojans is a third meeting with third seeded Robbinsdale Armstrong in the semifinals on Friday. The Falcons scored 54 points in the second half of their quarterfinal game against Minneapolis South on Tuesday night to defeat the Tigers 83-77.

On the other side of the bracket, top seeded Hopkins had no trouble with eighth seeded St. Louis Park as the Royals rolled to a 94-39 victory. Senior guard and Arizona State recruit Trent Lockett scored 14 points to lead the Royals.

Hopkins will face fourth seeded Minneapolis North in the semifinals. The Polars took care of fifth seeded Minnetonka 64-55 on Tuesday night.

The semifinals will be played Friday night at Osseo High School.
