ST. CLOUD TIMES: Wayzata resident Derek Johanson killed as car hits tree near Delano

The St. Cloud Times is reporting the Derek Johanson of Wayzata, MN was killed on Tuesday sometime around 3:00 in the afternoon. According to the article, Wright County Sheriff Gary Miller indicated that Johanson’s vehicle was traveling eastbound on 105th Street when it left the road and struck a tree in the ditch. Miller also stated Johanson was not wearing his seatbelt, and that no one else was in the car at the time.

On March 3, at 3:21 PM the Wright County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one vehicle crash in front of 741 105th St SE in Franklin Township. Upon arrival, responders discovered that a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier had been eastbound on 105th St SE when it left the roadway and struck a tree in the north ditch. The driver, Derek Johanson, 29, of Wayzata was pronounced dead at the scene. It does not appear the driver was wearing his seat belt. There were no other occupants in the car.

The Watertown Fire Department and Ridgeview Ambulance also responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Wright County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
