For the first time this season, the Wayzata girls baskebtall team had lost three games in a row. To make matters worse, one of those three losses was a heartbreaking, one-point loss to rival Hopkins.
With the regular season coming to a close, and the section tournament looming, the Trojans picked themselves up off the floor on Tuesday night and defeated a solid Edina team 47-44 for their 13th victory of the season.
The Trojans erased a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Hornets 28-22 in the second half. Senior Kate Thompson led the Trojans with 14 points, while freshman Marissa Grossfeld also finished in double figures with 10 points. Senior Alexa Clausen added eight, while seniors Teresa Thour and Christina Keup chipped in with six points apiece. Junior guard Taylor Young led the Hornets with 20 points.
The Trojans are now 13-10 overall and 4-2 in the Classic Lake Conference. The regular season will come to close on Friday, Feb. 27 when the Trojans play at Minnetonka.
