Megan He, Wayzata East Middle School Student, wins district spelling bee

From Wayzata Public Schools:

Megan He, an eighth grade student from East Middle School, won the Wayzata Public Schools middle school level spelling bee held at EMS on February 5. Nine Wayzata Public Schools middle school students participated in the competition.

The runner up in the competition was Aaron Olson, an eighth grade student from Central Middle School. The winner of the district competition advances to the Metro District tournament held in March. The winning word was “promontory.” The competition was coordinated by Rachel Marcouiller. The pronouncer for the competition was EMS Principal Paul Paetzel and the judges were West Middle School Principal Susan Sommerfeld, CMS Assistant Principal Jenny Berg and Kathy Simson, EMS Vision 21 teacher.

Middle school students that participated in the competition were:

  • Central Middle SchoolAaron Olson, eighth grade; Pavithra Paravastu, seventh grade; Kevin Musliner, sixth grade
  • East Middle SchoolMegan He (district champion), eighth grade; JeevaPalanisamy, seventh grade; Alyssa Lentine, seventh grade
  • West Middle School Jack Iverson, seventh grade; Claire Erickson, seventh grade; Amelia Stach, seventh grade

The Spelling Bee Competition was videotaped for playback on ED’s TV in early March.
