The Wayzata boys basketball team will face its toughest test of the season on Tuesday when they play a team that some say is the best high school basketball team in the history of Minnesota boys basketball.
It’s not often that a team with a 15-2 record goes into a game as a huge underdog, but that will be the case when the Trojans travel to Hopkins for a 7:15 tip-off on Tuesday.
The Royals are 17-0 this season and have blown out most of their opponents by 25 points or more. The Royals have played two conference games this season and won by 44 and 37 points respectively over Minnetonka and Edina.
The Royals, of course, have four players in their starting line-up who have signed with Division I schools for next year. All four of those players – Royce White, Raymond Cowles, Mike Broghammer, and Trent Lockett – are averaging in double figures this season. White is headed for the University of Minnesota, Cowles to Santa Clara, Broghammer to Notre Dame, and Lockett to Arizona State.
The Royals’ closest victory this season was a 63-55 victory over St. Bernard’s back on Dec. 18. In their last seven games, the Royals have won by an average margin of 38 points per game. That includes a 100-78 victory over previously unbeaten Robbinsdale Cooper.
