By Matt Thomas, Wayzata.com Sports Reporter

The #1 ranked Wayzata boys Nordic ski team will take part in the section 2 race Thursday, Feb. 5 at Camp Ripley near Little Falls. The Trojans’ biggest competitor at the meet will likely be the Orono Spartans who were ranked sixth in the latest state poll.

The Trojans are led by senior Kasey Bacso who is the number one ranked individual in the state. Bacso beat the rest of the field by 40 seconds at the Classic Lake Conference championships on Jan. 29. Senior Jonathan Griwac also had a strong performance at the CLC championships by placing third. Other skiers expected to contribute at the section meet include sophomore Joshua Blankenship, senior Sam Lozano, junior Nathan Engel, and junior Alex Meyer.

The other teams in section 2 are Buffalo, Elk River, Maple Grove, Rogers, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Tech, St. John’s Prep, and Willmar.

If the Trojans qualify for the state meet it will be held on Friday, Feb. 13 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
