Weekly Roundup: Wayzata.com’s top stories of the week, Sept. 29-Oct. 3

This week has seen another whirlwind of activity in the Wayzata community. So here again are the Top 5 Stories of the week at Wayzata.com

  1. Tom Petters arrested at this home in Wayzata on fraud charges. View a media report of the arrest here, and read about Petters stepping down from Petters Group, the fact that it was the lead story on the cover of the Star Tribune, his computer being seized from his home on Bushaway Road, the original story as the rumor mill caught wind of the FBI raid.
  2. The Wayzata Football team remains unbeaten with a huge win over Hopkins. They have games at Burnsville and with Edina left this season, and Dean Spiros of the Star Tribune calls them the best team in the state. Read the full write-up of the game, view the media report, and check out the conference standings.
  3. The City of Wayzata is in full political mode with Ken Willcox running for Mayor unopposed. Read Ken’s recent Letter to the Editor here, and a write-up on him via a telephone call here. Additionally, there are two open City Council seats and three candidates running for those seats. I sat down with all three to discover who they are, and what they think the biggest issues for Wayzata. Read their interviews here (in alphabetical order by last name): Mary Bader, Andrew Mullin, and Tom Tanner.
  4. The awful rollover crash on Highway 12 / 394 reminded us all to pay more attention to our driving, hang up and drive, and for gosh sakes wear your seatbelt at all times!
  5. A bomb threat at Wayzata East Middle School sends students home early. The building was cleared by Police and Fire that afternoon.
