City staff is soliciting bids for the creation of a 6.58 acre wetland bank located north of Highway 12, east of Broadway Avenue, and west of Central Avenue. Th e project will restore a partially drained
and fi lled wetland, including the addition of wetland vegetation and upland buffers. When completed, the wetland bank will provide available mitigation credits which can be sold to developers who are unable to provide wetland mitigation on their development sites. The first developer to use this site will be the Wayzata Bay Center (WBC). On September 15, 2009 the City Council approved WBC’s wetland application, which proposed mitigating impacts to wetlands on their site with the purchase of wetland credits.

The $259,000 wetland bank will be funded initially through the City’s Storm Water Capital Improvement Program. The Wayzata Bay Center developers will contribute $129,591. Earthwork will likely begin in mid-March 2010. Additional information will be posted on the City website, under City Projects.
