During its October 12, 2009, regular meeting, the school board of Wayzata Public Schools conducted the following business:
The board unanimously approved the consent agenda which included: minutes from the September 14, 2009, regular meeting; finance and business recommendations; human resource recommendations; and Assurance of Compliance with state and federal laws prohibiting discrimination.
The school board received a student curriculum presentation from Wayzata High School physical education teacher Kris Jones on the physical education program and its changed focus of providing more activities and information about lifelong physical fitness and wellness.
The school board recognized Jeff Dahl, a choir teacher at WHS, and John Simmelink, a social studies teacher at WHS, as the October Employees of the Month.
The school board recognized 2009 retiree Benno Leuer, a custodian with the district for 24 years.
The school board recognized Barbara Cartford, a world language teacher at Greenwood and Kimberly Lane elementary schools, who was named the 2009-10 World Language Teacher of the Year by the Minnesota Council of the Teaching of Languages and Cultures.
WHS senior and student council vice president Lucy Andrews gave a brief update to the board concerning activities at the high school since the September 14 regular meeting.
The school board reviewed board policies regarding harassment and violence, mandated reporting of child neglect or physical or sexual abuse, family and medical leave, student discipline, student sex nondiscrimination, technology use, first aid, crisis management, school volunteers – buildings and grounds, and authorized use of district-owned materials and equipment.
The school board received and approved the WHS shared decisions agreement for 2009-11.
The school board received monthly financial reports from Executive Director of Finance and Business Jim Westrum.
School Board Chair John Moroz gave a report on the evaluation process of district Superintendent Chace Anderson.
School Board Director Carter Peterson gave a summary report to the board regarding District 287.
