The following is a letter sent to the Sun Sailor in response to an article they did in response to my opinion letter:

To the editor,

On July 11, 2009, The Sun Sailor published a story entitled Wayzata city manager, chamber respond to blogger’s demands in response to an opinion letter submitted to the City of Wayzata and published at Wayzata.com recently.  Using the word demands in the Sailor’s article overstates my position.  Let me be clear, when a story on Wayzata.com leads with the word opinion, its mean just that—a belief as to the way things ought to be.

Wayzata City Manager Al Orsen referred to the opinion letter as, “…a low-road effort rather than a high-road one.”  Not knowing exactly what low-road meant, I looked it up–it means behavior or practice that is deceitful or immoral.  There was nothing deceitful or immoral about the opinion letter, and I stand by it.

Chamber President Peggy Douglas indicated in the Sailor article that “[Wayzata.com] would not receive special treatment” because it’s locally owned—and she is right.  Wayzata.com has not received special treatment, or consideration from the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce for almost a decade.  This seems a peculiar position given the core audience, readership, and the fact 70% of the traffic at Wayzata.com is the result of a direct visit to the site.

Again, there were no demands upon the City or the Chamber, rather an opinion for how things should be.
